Michael Smith

Mr. Smith has served as a member of our Board since January 2004. Mr. Smith is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, a position he assumed in April 1999 after serving as Senior Vice President of Anthem and CFO of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s Midwest and Connecticut operations. From April 1996 to March 1998, he was Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of American Health Network, a former Anthem subsidiary. From 1974 to 1995, Mr. Smith held various management positions at Mayflower Group, Inc., most recently as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. He began his career at Arthur Andersen in 1970. Mr. Smith is a member of the Board of Directors of First Indiana Corporation and its principal subsidiary, First Indiana Bank, and Finishmaster, Inc. He also serves as on the Board of Trustees of DePauw University. Mr. Smith holds a B.A. in Economics from DePauw University.
